MOSCOW, MARCH 22, (RIA NOVOSTI) - Another seven countries are joining NATO quite soon: the three post-Soviet Baltics - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia; Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria.

Three committees of the State Duma, Russia's lower parliamentary house, will gather for a joint session, Thursday next, to estimate the effect the change will have on Russia, announced Konstantin Kosachev, international affairs committee head.

Top-notch spokesmen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Defence Ministry and other interested bodies will appear at the enlarged-attendance session of the international affairs, defence and security committees.

The conferees will evaluate upcoming NATO expansion, and forecast its impact on Russia. The session will propose to hold parliamentary hearings on CFE treaty ratification.

The committees are expected to call the Duma to make a special statement at its nearest plenary session, April 2. The statement is to make a fundamental evaluation of NATO activities and its recent and current partnership with Russia, says Mr. Kosachev.
