CHECHENS FOUND AMONG FOREIGN MILITANTS TRAPPED BY PAKISTANI MILITARY

ISLAMABAD, MARCH 22. (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT VLADIMIR SHRETER). Foreign militants got into encirclement in the Pakistani province Vaziristan maintain radio contacts in Chechen, Uzbek and Arabic, Major-General Shaukat Sultan, director of the Pakistani military information service, has said to RIA Novosti.

Intelligence information is available that Chechens are found in the area, he said. He refused to go into details.

On Monday Shaukat Sultan and Masoud Khan, press secretary of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, gave a press conference on the on-going operation on the border with Afghanistan. The operation will go on until the area is "clear of terrorists and foreign militants", they said.

The general also said that locals have been proposed to leave the area of hostilities and many followed the advice.

According to Shaukat Sultan, Monday afternoon Pashto tribal elders were let into the surrounded area in order to persuade the armed people entrenched there to surrender. Fire has suspended for the time of talks.

There is no information available on the presence of prominent Al-Qaeda leaders in Vaziristan, the Pakistani general said.
