RUSSIA: STATISTICAL COMMITTEE OFFERS FOREIGN TRADE FIGURES

MOSCOW, MARCH 22, (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russia's foreign trade turnover in actual prices made US$16.1 billion, or 465.3 billion roubles, this January-12.7 per cent more than in January 2003, announced the State Statistical Committee with calculations made proceeding from the balance of payments.

The Russian export volume made $10.8 billion (R313.2 bn), and import $5.3 billion (R152.1 bn), the committee says in a report that reached Novosti today.

The entire foreign trade turnover for January 2004 is evaluated at $15.3 billion. Exports amounted to $11.5 bn-of this, $9.8 bn for countries outside the CIS, and $1.7 bn to countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Imports made $3.7 bn-$2.8 bn and $0.9 bn, respectively.

The January balance was positive, of $7.8 billion, as against 6.2 billion for January 2003.
