RUSSIA OFFERS TO DISCUSS KOSOVO CRISIS AT RUSSIA-NATO COUNCIL

MOSCOW, March 22, 2004. (RIA Novosti). Moscow offers to discuss the Kosovo crisis at Russia-NATO Council on April 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a traditional Monday meeting held by the Russian President.

Inter-ethnic conflicts in Kosovo began on March 16. Serbs' property is plundered and churches are destroyed. According to the latest data of the UN civil mission in Kosovo, 24 people were killed and 851 wounded in the conflict. Hundreds of Serb houses were burnt down. Thousands of refugees flee Kosovo.

This is the most serious conflict in Kosovo since 1999.

More than 2 million Albanians and about 70,000 Serbs live in Kosovo today. Hundreds of thousands of Serbs were forced to leave Kosovo in the last five years.
