The aviation administration took a decision to close the lower corridor for aircraft flights over Adzharian territory on March 14 in connection with information received about military hardware and armed people moving along the territory of Batumi airport in the early hours of March 14.

Economic sanctions against the autonomy that envisaged, in particular, Batumi airport temporarily closed, were introduced March 15 on an instruction by the Georgian president.

At the meeting between Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and Adzharian leader Aslan Abashidze in Batumi on March 18, an agreement to lift economic sanctions against the autonomy was reached.
