SUB LAUNCHES 2 IBMs TO MAKE UP FOR WAR GAME FAILURE

MURMANSK, MARCH 17 (RIA NOVOSTI) - The nuclear submarine "Novomoskovsk" of the Northern Fleet launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles from underwater in the Barents Sea - 3.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m., Moscow time, this afternoon, reports the Northern Fleet HQ.

Vladimir Kuroyedov, commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, was watching the launches on board the "Pyotr Veliky" nuclear missile-bearing cruiser.

Today's launches followed President Vladimir Putin's order made after the "Novomoskovsk" and "Karelia" submarines made abortive IBM launches in February's naval games, Security 2004.

An interdepartmental commission started work with the Northern Fleet, March 1. The troubleshooters - topnotch Naval Staff officers and designers - brought to light many problems, and helped to cope with them. Today's launches came off without a hitch.
