ELECTIONS IN CHECHNYA PROCEEDING WITHOUT PROBLEMS - INTERIOR MINISTRY

GROZNY, March 14 (RIA Novosti). Elections are proceeding in Chechnya without problems, says Russian Interior Ministry spokesman Valery Gribakin. "Security has been stepped up at all electoral districts but the situation is normal and the turnout is considerable," he said.

He also pointed to the incident that happened in the settlement of Sernovodskaya, Sunzha District, in the morning of March 14. "I can tell you about the information reported by the media that there were no terrorist acts or terrorist attempts in Sernovodskaya," said Gribakin. "Roman candles were fired by unidentified persons, possibly hooligans, in the stadium between electoral districts 2 and 4."

In his works, the said polling stations are working and the turnout has topped 14%.

Previous reports mentioned explosive devices. "Explosive devices were blown up close to the electoral districts in school buildings at 8:30 and 8:35," RIA was told in the Chechen administration. There are no casualties or material damage, said a spokesman of the administration. After a pause of 30 minutes, voting was resumed in the settlement.
