ASTANA, March 11, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture has imposed a ban on chicken meat from countries affected by bird flu.

The Kazakh sanitary and epidemiological service reported on Thursday that mass producers of poultry meat, bird farm personnel were being monitored in Kazakhstan. The personnel's observance of sanitary rules is being checked either. As soon as a case of bird flu is registered everybody must be ready to impose a ban.

Game-bird hunting has been suspended, as Kazakhstan is a nest country for many birds flying in from countries where the bird flu outbreak has been registered.

Earlier Kazakhstan imposed a ban on chicken meat from Canada and some U.S. states.
