The Nadezhda was the first in the 21st century ship to sail up the Hunagpu River in difficult conditions. The Nadehzda's masts are 50 meters high however, it managed to pass under the city bridge and moor in Shanghai's center.
During their visit to Shanghai the crew toured China's largest megalopolis and held a series of events to acquaint the local residents with modern Russia and the economic potential of the Russian Far East and Siberia. RIA Novosti's permanent photo exhibition, "Russia's Faces," was open on board the frigate.
The Nadezhda also hosted a presentation about the Irkutsk region, a forum on Baikal, a Russian-Chinese conference on the development of the Russian economy and Russian-Chinese trade, a press conference and a meeting with Russians living in Shanghai. RIA Novosti helped to organize these events.
The Nadezhda began its circumnavigation voyage on January 25, 2003. There are 90 cadets on the ship.
The voyage is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the first circumnavigation voyages of the Neva and the Nadezhda under Admiral Ivan Kruzenshtern's command. The frigate already visited 18 countries and carried out a series of ecological and climatic experiments in different seas and oceans.
The Nadezha will make stops in Nagasaki, Japan on March 15 and in Pusan, South Korea on March 20. On March 28, the vessel will arrive in Vladivostok, thus concluding its voyage.
