IRELAND HOPES NEW DATE OF RUSSIA-EU MEETING IN DUBLIN WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON

MOSCOW, March 10, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The EU president, Ireland expects that the Russia-EU Ministerial Troika postponed following the appointment of Russia's new foreign minister will take place in the near future.

"The Presidency wishes to announce the postponement of the EU-Russia Ministerial Troika, scheduled for 11th March in Dublin, following the nomination today of Mr. Sergei Lavrov to the post of Foreign Minister," reads a statement posted on the official site of the Irish presidency.

"It is hoped to re-schedule the meeting for an early date," it goes on.

At the Ministerial Troikas the EU is represented by Foreign Minister of the presiding country, currently by Irish Foreign Minister Brian Cowen, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, as well as EU Commissioner for External Relations Christopher Patten. Russia is to be represented by its foreign minister.

Sergei Lavrov, earlier Russia's permanent representative to the UN, on Tuesday was appointed the country's foreign minister. In this capacity he succeeded Igor Ivanov who will head the Russian Security Council.
