MOSCOW, March 7, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- In the Nazran district of Ingushetia (Chechnya's neighbour in the Southern federal district), an active member of the illegal armed formations has been killed showing armed resistance while seized, the Interior Ministry reported.
According to the police, a detainment operation was earlier held in the village of Surkhakhi. The militant opened fire from an automatic weapon and was destroyed on site by reciprocating fire.
A search in his house revealed his hiding a Kalashnikov assault-rifle, a Degtyarev machine gun having no identification number, a Mosin rifle, a RPG-17 grenade-launcher, two grenades, 11 detonators, over 1,000 different-calibre cartridges, Wakhabite audio cassettes and publications.
