TWO PERSONS INJURED AS RESULT OF HOME GAS EXPLOSION IN SOUTHERN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, March 7, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Two people were injured as a result of an apartment house explosion in the south of Moscow in the early hours of Sunday.

The cause of the explosion was home gas, said Viktor Zakharov in charge of the Federal Security Service (FSB) board for Moscow and the region. There is no talk of an explosive device being triggered, he is sure.

Emerging on the site, Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said that no victims are found here: the two persons received light injuries and have been hospitalised.

The building has not got grave damages: the explosion has broken partitions and partly damaged four apartments.

A working group, headed by Yury Luzhkov, has been set up to eliminate the outcome of the emergency situation. Four rescue teams, two groups of trainers with man-sniffer dogs, FSB blast experts are working on the site.

Residents of the accident-hit apartment house have begun to return to their homes.

On fact of the explosion a criminal case on the article "destruction or damage of property by neglect" has been initiated.
