CAIRO, MARCH 5, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russian archaeologists have been allowed to look for Roman riches outside the Egyptian coast. Zakhi Havvas told Friday the local MENA agency that the Supreme archaeology council under his direction had given consent to the work of Russian experts led by Galina Belova close to the Mediterranean coastline of the country.

The project is to be overseen by the board for sunk antiques in the city of Alexandria. Underwater work is to begin in mid-April. Belova and another Russian archaeologist, Eleonora Kormysheva, have been carrying out excavations in Egypt for many years.
