YEREVAN, March 3, 2004. (RIA Novosti). The Armenian National Assembly has adopted amendments and supplements to the law On Refugess on Wednesday.
These amendments are to adjust the law to the Geneva Convention on the Status of Refugees and to establish mechanisms of people seeking refuge in Armenian territory, the public relations department of the Armenian parliament said.
The new law prohibits the deportation of refugees if their life would be in danger in connection with social, national, political or religious persecutions in the country of origin. It also concerns illegal refugees.
People who committed crimes against humanity and other grave crimes cannot be granted the refugee status.
