MOSCOW RESOLUTELY CONDEMNS TERRORIST ACTS IN IRAQ

MOSCOW, March 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Moscow has resolutely condemned the acts of terrorism in the Iraqi cities Baghdad and Kerbela, taking a toll of life.

"Especially outrageous is the fact that the inhuman doings of extremists were aimed against civilians gathering for the celebration of the main religious holiday of all the Shiites, Ashurah. We resolutely condemn these heinous acts and express sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims," reads the official statement of Alexander Yakovenko, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry. The statement was published on Tuesday on the official site of the Russian foreign policy establishment.

Russia reaffirms its readiness to go on with the political and diplomatic support for the Iraqi authorities in the stabilisation of their country and resolving problems in the restoration of the sovereignty, ensurance of the territorial integrity and unity of Iraq, Alexander Yakovenko said.
