PRESIDENT OF MALTA ELECTED DOCTOR HONORIS CAUSA OF ST PETERSBURG UNIVERSITY

ST PETERSBURG, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - President of Malta Guido De Marco has been elected doctor honoris causa of St Petersburg State University. Rector Lyudmila Verbitskaya handed the diploma and the mantle to the new doctor in the Peter the Great Hall of the university on Tuesday.

De Marco was granted the honorary title for his "achievements in science and politics," reports the information department of the school. Today he is to deliver a lecture at the department of international relations on the place of Malta in European integration and the role of small and medium-sized countries in the creation of a system of international relations. The president will answer students' questions and tell them about European integration and Russia-Malta cooperation outlook.

In the evening on Tuesday the Maltese president will meet with St Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko, who will present to him a medal In Memory of the 300th Anniversary of St Petersburg.
