MOSCOW, February 29 (RIA Novosti) - A major water supply pipe accident occurred Sunday afternoon in downtown Moscow, the Mosvodokanal state enterprise said.

According to the source, as a result of a breach of a pipeline with cold water in Serpukhovskoi Val Street, some 150 residential buildings were left without water supply.

The emergencies ministry officer on duty said the water leakage has been stopped.

"A 80cm-diameter pipeline is blocked. An underground pass was insignificantly sunk," the officer on duty said.

In his words, 146 buildings are without cold water. Water supply will soon be resumed through bypass pipelines. No victims are reported.

Moscow's main department for civil defense and emergencies said it does not have any information on the threat of metro facilities getting sunk that was reported by some media earlier.

Road traffic has been stopped on Serpukhovskoi Val. The reasons behind the accident are being established.
