MALTA'S PRESIDENT GUIDO DE MARCO TO VISIT ST. PETERSBURG

ST. PETERSBURG, February 28, 2004. (RIA Novosti). Malta's President Guido de Marco with his spouse will arrive in St. Petersburg on March 1.

On Monday the distinguished guest is to lay wreaths to the monument of Leningrad's heroic defenders on Victory Square and to visit the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg's administration told RIA Novosti.

The title of an honorary doctor of St. Petersburg State University will be conferred on Guido de Marco at a ceremony on Tuesday. After that, the President will deliver a lecture "Malta in the process of European integration: the role of small and medium-sized countries in the formation of the international relations system" at the faculty of international relations.

Then the President will meet with St. Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko. She will hand to the distinguished guest an honorary medal "In Memory of 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg ".

Besides, Guido de Marco and his wife will visit the Mikhailovsky Palace and participate in the opening ceremony of the exhibition "7,000 Years of Maltese History".

On Wednesday the President will attend palaces and museums in Pushkin and Pavlovsk, famous St. Pete's suburbs.

In the evening Guido de Marco will fly back to Malta.
