MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 27 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russia's Gosatomnadzor (the State Nuclear Energy Inspectorate) sees unsatisfactory the level of physical protection of national nuclear facilities.

"The checks we held in 2003 show that the physical protection of national nuclear facilities cannot be called satisfactory," Gosatomnadzor head Andrei Malyshev told the collegium at a sitting on Friday.

He said that last year Gosatomnadzor held 299 inspections to determine the level of physical protection at nuclear facilities: 175 violations were revealed.

At the same time, Malyshev said that in comparison with 2002 the number of such violations decreased.
