6 MN RUSSIANS OUT OF JOB - 629,000 LESS THAN LAST YEAR

MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 26 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russia had a total 5.8 million unemployed by January's end, or 8 per cent of the able-bodied population, say calculations made on methods of the ILO, International Labor Organization.

The number was 6.43 million - 9.1 per cent of the able-bodied population - in January 2003, which means that 629,000 found jobs last year.

Officially registered unemployed persons made 1.64 million by last month's end - 2.3 per cent of the able-bodied population, 89,000 more than in January 2003, the federal Ministry of Economic Development and Trade says in a current economic report it placed on its official web site today.
