BEIJING, February 23, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- On Monday heads of Russian and Chinese delegations at 6-sided negotiations on nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula appealed to participants of the negotiations to demonstrate "flexibility and sincerity" as well as to "avoid confrontation" during consideration of specific issues.

This appeal was made at the Monday negotiations between Russian and Chinese deputy foreign ministers Aleksander Losyukov and Wang Yi.

In the wake of the consultations Alexander Losyukov stated to Russian journalists that "if all negotiations' participants were governed by good will, were seeking compromises and mutual concessions in order to achieve the common goal of de-nuclearization of the Korean peninsula, then achievement of mutually acceptable agreements was quite possible." In the opinion of the head of the Russian delegation, the "last collation of positions" of all delegations proved that all parties were interested in achievement of a positive result during the second round of negotiations." At the same time Losyukov stated that "a lot of problems, which were on the surface and which were emerging in the course of their consideration, were impossible to be solved even during several rounds of negotiations." On Tuesday Aleksander Losyukov will hold consultations with heads of delegations of Japan, USA, DPRK and South Korea. The Chinese delegation also plans to hold meetings with delegations of DPRK, USA and South Korea. And on Monday in Seoul tripartite consultations were held between heads of delegations of Japan, USA and South Korea.

6-sided negotiations on the nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula are to be commenced on February 25th 2004.
