MOSCOW, February 22, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent) - On Sunday, the last day of the Shrovetide Week, Vasilyevsky Spusk near Moscow Kremlin will host a pancake show, the city government's tourism committee has reported.

At first the event was scheduled for Thursday, February 19th, but the organizational committee decided against holding any festive activities while the city authorities were considering announcing mourning for those killed in the Yasenevo aqua park on February 14th.

The Maslenitsa camp in Vasilyevsky Spusk on Thursday worked "in a quiet regime", the tourism committee explained. Visitors were sold pancakes and souvenirs, but all concerts and other entertaining activities were cancelled.

Celebrations of the Shrovetide Week in Vasilyevsky Spusk began last Monday.

At the forthcoming pancake show the organizers intend to set a new world record of baking the highest pile of pancakes. Last Shrovetide the pile of pancakes baked here reached almost 7 meters, which became an achievement of international level - such records had never been registered before. Now the organizers hope to improve on the achievement.

Everyone willing may take part in baking pancakes. Famous Russian sportsmen, politicians and artists have agreed to assist the bakers.
