TEHRAN, February 21 (RIA Novosti corr. Nikolai Terekhov) - The results of voting on February 20 at the elections to mejlis (parliament) of Iran in the state's capital where 12,000,000 people live and in the main cities of the capital province will be known in three days, on Tuesday, said the head of the election HQ of the district Big Tehran, Golam Reza Govdini.

"As of now, only 10 percent of votes of those who took part in the voting to elect mejlis deputies have been processed, and the final results will be known on Tuesday," Govdini said.

He refuted information by some mass media that the results are already known, and said "the official results of the elections will be announced by Iran's interior ministry or Iranian provinces' governors, in line with the law." The names of 290 new parliamentarians will be known soon. They will start working in mejlis after May 29, when the present parliament will be dismissed.

In observers' estimates, representatives of the conservative clergy who are against any political reforms, and, in particular, against the withdrawal from the country's Fundamental Law of the principle of superiority of spiritual authority over secular will have the majority of votes in mejlis of the seventh convocation. This, in the opinion of progressively minded supporters of incumbent president Mohammad Khatami, practically nullifies all reformist initiatives of the government.
