IRAN PREPARES FOR DEVELOPING-EIGHT SUMMIT

TEHRAN, February 15, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Terekhov/ -- Within the framework of preparations for the Developing-Eight session, on Sunday Iran hosted consultations of D8 deputy foreign ministers, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's press service has reported.

"The main goal of today's event is to prepare the necessary documents for the session of foreign ministers scheduled on Monday, and then for the summit of presidents of the eight Islamic states [Pakistan, Turkey, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran and Egypt], due on Tuesday," the press service pointed out.

By the meeting D8 experts and ministerial representatives intend to develop common directions to increase interaction in the trade and economic sphere, to create the necessary structures to strengthen and improve the work in the banking and investment sectors.

The D8 economic bloc was set up in 1997. Its main goal is economic and trade cooperation.
