MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 13, 2004, (RIA NOVOSTI) - Alexei Miller, Board Chairman of the Russian gas giant Gazprom, met Friday with the visiting Israeli Vice Premier Ehud Olmert to examine high-tech cooperation options, Gazprom reports in a press release.

"Specifically, under consideration is the possibility of cooperating with the [Israeli] companies Gilat Satellite Networks, RAD Data Communications, and Israeli Aircraft Industries," the press release says.

At their meeting Friday, the sides underscored the topicality of employing state-of-the-art technologies, notably those related to pipeline leak monitoring, at Gazprom's gas transportation facilities. They also discussed cooperation prospects in the gas sector.

Israel's high technologies rank among the most advanced in the world. Gilat Satellite Networks is a leader in manufacturing satellite communications equipment. It provides 40 to 50 percent of the global output of satellite networks relying on ground-based satellite tracking stations with small antennas. RAD Data Communications is involved with the development of solutions and equipment for telecommunications and data transmission. And Israeli Aircraft Industries is a world leader in developing military and commercial aerospace technologies.
