MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 6, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI) - Meeting Friday Azeri President Ilkham Aliev, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov reported about his assignment to all Duma main committees to reconsider certain laws so as to toughen punishment for terrorism.

Still earlier, he told newsmen that law-makers would take urgent measures to toughen laws concerning terrorism.

He specified that revision would affect the articles of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. "I am confident that these articles ought to be reviewed so as to inflict more austere punishment," said the Speaker.

Still, he thinks it is premature to discuss the introduction of capital punishment. "This matter ought to be treated cautiously, without emotions, " he noted.

Gryzlov also declared in favour of increasing the budget for law-enforcement bodies.

Commenting on today's tragedy in the Moscow underground, the Speaker referred to this crime as another outrage by the forces of international terrorism.
