NIZHNY NOVGOROD, February 3 (RIA Novosti correspondent Zhanna Voronova) - The Gorky automobile-producing plant (GAZ) intends to complete the production of Volga cars, GAZ 3110, for subsequent deliveries to Iraq on February 5, 2004. Spokesman for Russia's leading car making plant Sergei Lugovoi said this on Tuesday.

According to him, the plant has to assemble about 600 more cars to fulfill the contract. Every day, 260 cars leave GAZ's assembly belt.

GAZ and the Iraqi trade ministry concluded the contract costing 44 million euros in 2001 and envisaged the delivery of 5,000 cars to that country.

In March 2003, GAZ intended to deliver the first 250 cars to the client. However, the military activities in the country made it suspend the deliveries.

After the new Iraqi government had been formed, GAZ and the Russian foreign ministry launched negotiations to resume the contract. As a result, the contract for Volga deliveries was re-concluded with the Iraqi transportation and communications ministry.

The first batch of 436 autos was sent to the client in December 2003.
