RUSSIAN PILOTS TO TAKE PART IN UAE AIR SHOW-2004

ABU DHABI, January 31 (RIA Novosti correspondent Yuri Zinin) - Russian pilots are training for the Air Show-2004 due to take place shortly in Al Ain, UAE, Svetlana Kapanina, flight instructor of the Sukhoi aircraft design bureau and member of the Russian national team, told RIA Novosti.

"We have been practicing for some time in the UAE skies, getting ready for this memorable event which opens on February 2," she said.

According to her, there are five Su-26 and Su-29 acrobatic aircraft in Al Ain at present as well as five Russian pilots, three men and two women. The organizers are also expecting the arrival of a few Russian Sukhoi and MIG fighters.

The program of the show includes the Aerobatics World Cup Championship with contestants coming from 16 countries. 60 planes and helicopters will take part in the competition.

The first two days of the show in Al Ain international airport will feature exhibition flights and an impressive aerobatics program. These will be followed by the Aerobatics World Cup Championship held both in the single and group flight categories. Among other events, the Championship includes a "freestyle" competition performed to music. A board of international referees will judge the Championship's events.

The UAE authorities will host the air show on February 2-6 under the auspices of the International Aerobatics Federation.
