HIV MORBIDITY DROPS 27%, HEPATITIS 36%: RUSSIA'S SANITARY INSPECTION

MOSCOW, JANUARY 29 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russia's State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service is circulating a press release on contagious disease morbidity.

Last year dropped HIV morbidity by an average 27.5 per cent, while infantile infection came 13.7 per cent down. 31,986 HIV-infected persons were registered in the country throughout the year - 22.29 cases per 100,000 population - in particular, 475 infants - 1.96 per 100,000.

Average TB morbidity came 0.9 per cent up, infantile decreasing by 0.7 per cent. There are a total 95,729 registered tubercular cases - 66.70 per 100,000 population, of these 2,877 infantile cases, 11.86 per 100,000.

Acute viral hepatitis incidence came a spectacular 36 per cent down - 43 per cent infantile. There were 69,987 registered patients, 48.76 per 100,000 population, of these 16,894 infantile cases, 69.65 per 100,000.

The incidence of hepatitis A decreased by 39.2 per cent, B 33.7 per cent, and C 26.3 per cent.

A total 34,306,200 infectious disease cases were registered throughout Russia last year, in particular, 32,374,900 influenza and acute respiratory disease cases, or 94.4 per cent of the total.
