Fedotov emphasised the need to fulfil the UN resolutions on the problem of Iraq aimed at the earliest restoration of the country's sovereignty and the ensurance of the key role of the United Nations in the post-conflict settlement.
"Russia has invariably come out for the political solution of the problem of Iraq, linked above all with the clarification of what is called 'the disarmament dossiers' on the basis of international law and multilateral diplomacy, warned of the negative effects of military actions taken without sanctions of the United Nations Security Council", Fedotov said.
"The Iraq crisis is a confirmation that no state, however strong, can single-handedly cope with the complex challenges of our times. This is why comprehensive collective measures in response should be developed and linked to the concrete situations", Yuri Fedotov said.
