VELIKY NOVGOROD, JANUARY 25 (RIA Novosti corr. Andrei Letyagin) - Medieval treasures from the old Russian town of Novgorod will be featured at New York City's Metropolitan Museum as part of an exhibition "Byzantium: Faith and Might." Masterpieces of Byzantine art from major museum collections of the world will be brought together for the Metropolitan exhibit, to open March 15.

At the Metropolitan's request, Novgorod will contribute five of its rarities, including a 15th-century communion bread bowl in gold-plated silver, Russia's oldest surviving example.

The Novgorod treasures will be on display in N.Y. for about three months.
