MOSCOW, January 25 (RIA Novosti) - A bunker that probably belonged to the so-called president of "independent Ichkeria" (Chechen separatists call Chechnya in this way), Aslan Maskhadov, has been discovered in Chechnya's Vedeno district near Mekhty settlement, Ruslan Alkhanov, commander of the Chechen special purpose police detachment, told the NTV television network.
In his words, militants used this bunker to record their video messages: a carpet similar to the one on videotapes was found there, against whose background Aslan Maskhadov, Shamil Basayev and other Chechen separatists repeatedly addressed the nation.
The flag of the self-proclaimed republic of Ichkeria, which also was on this carpet was probably taken away by the militants.
The Chechen special purpose police detachment discovered in the bunker a half-disassembled Chevrolet Suburban, a damaged Mercedes, ammunition, sleeping bags and uniforms.
The HQ of the Joint Group of Forces in the North Caucasus has not confirmed the information yet.
