PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, January 25 (RIA Novosti correspondent Oksana Guseva) - A 3,000 meters high ashfall occurred in the crater of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano (4,833m high) situated in Kamchatka (Russian northeastern peninsula washed by the Bering and Okhotsk Seas).
The explosion was accompanied by numerous surface earthquakes and continuous spasmodic volcano tremble, the Kamchatka experimental-methodical seismic party reported.
In the dark hours fluorescence above the crater of the volcano was registered, which speaks for the approaching new lava.
The Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano started its eruption on December 24th, 2002, after being idle for 8 years.
Aerovisual inspection showed, that before the eruption the top crater of the volcano looked like a large hole with a diameter of 700 meters and 300 meters deep.
According to scientists, the volcano entered "the long phase of eruption." Its activity gradually increases.
