VLADIVOSTOK, JANUARY 25 (RIA Novosti corr. Anatoly Ilyukhov) - The 22-member crew of the freight ship that sank three days ago in the Tartar Strait, between the Russian mainland and the Sakhalin Island, are all safe now. They have been brought to the southern Sakhalin port of Korsakov, reports the Vladivostok Sea Rescue Coordination Center.

The ship was going from Japan to the port of Vanino, in Russia's Khabarovsk Territory, to pick up a batch of timber when she got caught in a storm and suffered a hull breach. The crew were immediately evacuated to a fishing trawler.

The Pamela Gold, with 62 tons of fuel in her tanks, sank some 23 miles off Sovietskaya Bay. The sea depth in the disaster area is 70 meters.

With her fuel tanks tightly sealed, the sunken ship poses no threat to the ecosystem of the Tartar Strait. The vessel's owner - Pamela Corporation - is now considering the feasibility of her salvage.
