MOSCOW, JANUARY 25 (RIA Novosti) - A ceremony to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad [now St. Petersburg] after a 900-day Nazi siege took place Sunday near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, outside Moscow's Kremlin.
Dozens of WWII veterans laid flowers at the Tomb. Then Guards of Honor lit up torches as a tribute to the Leningraders for their heroic resistance from the cities of Moscow, Brest, Minsk, Tula, Smolensk, Volgograd, Murmansk, Novorossiisk, Kiev, Kerch, Sevastopol, and Odessa. On January 26, the torches will be brought to St. Petersburg's Moskovsky rail terminal by a special carriage known as Glory Train.
