IRANIAN PRESIDENT EXPECTS FULFILLMENT OF EU COMMITMENTS

TEHRAN, January 25 (RIA Novosti corr. Nikolai Terekhov) - Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said Tehran is expecting from the European Union the fulfillment of latter's commitments before the Islamic Republic.

The presidential administration press service reported that Khatami, in the course of the talks with his Austrian counterpart Thomas Klestil, said "Iran remains loyal to agreements reached with the EU, fulfills them and welcomes cooperation with the IAEA. Meanwhile, we expect from the EU the realization of commitments undertaken by it on interaction in the field of development of nuclear programs." "The Islamic Republic is guided by IAEA provisions, believes the reception of peaceful nuclear technologies its legal right and speaks for the declaration of the Middle East an area free from weapons of mass destruction," Khatami said.

Touching upon regional crises, Khatami confirmed Iran's loyalty to the policy of establishing stability and security in the region.

The Iranian president also said that "the Iranian leadership intends to hold in Iran sound and fair [parliamentary] elections based on competitive struggle and law."
