MOSCOW, JANUARY 22 (RIA Novosti correspondent Olga Protasenko) - UNESCO was introducing to the public its project to raise the Chechen educational network from ruins. Igor Ivanov, Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed the Moscow ceremony. He called to do everything possible to implement the project.

"We must make it understood that we shall do ever more to make the endeavour come true for Chechen children to see its fruit," said the minister.

He regards the project as manifesting practical international efforts to bring life in Chechnya back to normal. "This is actual teamwork-in deed not in word-by the international community to normalise developments in the Chechen Republic," said Mr. Ivanov.

Though the entire project comprises impressive eighteen initiatives, it will be wiser now to start with implementing a mere three or four, Steni Kohl, UNESCO executive manager for education, emphatically remarked. The curtailed project version, work on which is ready to start, will take much less time and effort than the whole thing. The endeavour will be essential to rehabilitate the educational system in the republic, and help to normalise its entire life, he said.
