MOSCOW, JANUARY 21, RIA NOVOSTI - Victor Geraschenko, once president of the Central Bank of Russia, is sole candidate for federal presidency nominated by the nationalist election bloc Rodina (Fatherland), also known as Popular Patriotic Union. He is the only one authorised to speak on Rodina behalf in the pre-election campaign, say leaders of political parties on the bloc.
They are circulating a statement that explains the situation with many media outlets alleging that Sergei Glazyev is another Rodina candidate.
Both are members of the State Duma, parliament's lower house, and their nominations were made at about the same time.
Economic expert Glazyev is a self-nominee. The Rodina Supreme Council did not approve his nomination. Neither did it allow him to use bloc insignia in his campaign. Rodina regional branches are not authorised to collect public signatures in his support, points out the statement.
