MOSCOW, JANUARY 19, 2004. /RIA NOVOSTI/ -- U.S.-Russia relationships should be guided by the interests of strategic partnership, believes Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov. He voiced his stance as he spoke Monday to a delegation of Richard Nixon Center officials.

Russia and the United States may have different approaches to issues, but they should rise above their tactical differences to be able to meet the interests of strategic partnership, Ivanov pointed out.

The Center's leadership are determined to work together with the Russian government in the security area, assured James Schlessinger, former US Defense Secretary and now a senior fellow at the Nixon Center. He said that the war on terrorism concerned Russia just as well as it did the United States.

The meeting was timed to coincide with US State Secretary Colin Powell's visit to Russia.

The Richard Nixon Center was founded by the ex-president of the United States in January 1994. This is one of the major think tanks to shape US foreign policies. Its leadership, including former State Secretary Henry Kissinger, advocate conservative views.
