Andrei Baklanov, Russian ambassador to Saudi Arabia told RIA Novosti that the meetings touched upon principled issues of bilateral relations' development.
The Chechen president also met with Salih bin Abd al-Aziz bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Shaykh, Saudi Minister of Islamic Guidance. In Baklanov's words, the minister showed a great interest in information provided by Kadyrov and North Caucasian religious figures on the everyday life of Russian Moslems. The delegation members stressed that North Caucasian, in particular, Chechen Moslems pin their hopes on Russian President Vladimir Putin's policy toward stabilization of the situation in the region and the ensuring of accelerated development of that area in the interests of increasing the population's living standards, Baklanov said.
During the meeting, both sides voiced the idea of expediency of holding in Moscow an international conference of Islamic religious figures and intellectuals under the motto "Islam is the religion of peace and good." Kadyrov also visited Saudi Health Minister Hamad bin Abdallah al- Manei. Chechen Health Minister Shakhid Akhmadov took part in the conversation as well.
Al-Manei emphasized that the development of relations with the Russian Federation is the firm strategic policy of the Saudi leadership.
Kadyrov visited one of Saudi Arabia's oldest and most well-known universities named after King Saud. The university leadership noted the significant growth recently of students' interest in learning Russian, in understanding what is going on in the Russian Federation, including in the North Caucasus and Chechnya.
Baklanov said the possibility of exchanging students and educators between higher educational establishments was touch upon during the meetings too.
