RUSSIAN DEFENSE MINISTER TO DISCUSS MILITARY COOPERATION WITH INDIAN COUNTERPART

MOSCOW, JANUARY 18 (RIA NOVOSTI) - A contract for the purchase of the Russian aircraft carrier The Admiral Ushakov is likely to be signed, among others, during Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov's forthcoming visit to India, a source at the defense ministry told RIA Novosti.

Mr. Ivanov will be visiting India January 19 through 21, ministry spokespeople say. There, he is scheduled to meet with his Indian opposite number, George Fernandes. The two officials are expected to discuss prospects of expanding military and technological cooperation and to share views on problems of military political character, including ones related to regional security. Following the talks, Messrs. Ivanov and Fernandes will sign a number of agreements on military cooperation.
