Medvedkov stated that "the parties managed to define approximately 20 issues related to the forthcoming entry of Lithuania into the European Union which were to be considered in the nearest future. " In particular, they were talking about the agreements between Russia and Lithuania, which might be amended in the wake of Lithuania's joining the European Union. Medvedkov pointed out that "the Lithuanian side stated that it did not intend to denounce those agreements but would like to adjust them to comply with the European Union standards." The parties will also have to consider problems related to cargo transit traffic across the territory of Lithuania to the territory of the Kaliningrad region (the Russian enclave on the coast of the Baltic Sea). According to the deputy minister, here the parties will have to agree on transportation tariffs as well as on facilitation of customs procedures.
Medvedkov added that "the same range of matters would be discussed at the negotiations with the EU Commission scheduled to be held at the end of January."
