2004 - YEAR OF BELARUSSIAN CULTURE IN RUSSIA

MOSCOW, January 15, 2004. /RIA Novosti/. 2004 was proclaimed the Year of Belarussian Culture in Russia. Performances by Belarussian ensembles, exhibitions and film shows will be held all over Russia, the Belarussian Embassy to Moscow told RIA Novosti.

In April the Belarussian National Academic Bolshoi Theatre will tour Moscow. It will show the opera "Khovanshchina" by the Russian composer Modest Musorgsky and Sergei Prokofyev's ballet "Romeo and Juliet". An exhibition "100 Masterpieces of the Belarussian National Art Museum" will open in the famous Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow in April.

The Belarussian State Orchestra is preparing a major concert program which will be presented in the towns of the Golden Ring /ancient Russian towns around Moscow/.

Novosibirsk, a large industrial and scientific center in Siberia, will see the Days of Belarussian Cinema. Kaliningrad, Russia's most western region, will host the readings dedicated to first Belarussian book-printer and enlightener of the 16th century Francisk Skorina.

Concerts of Belarussian artists will be held in many Russia's regional centers.
