The package of new proposals will be handed to UN SRSG to Georgia Heidi Tagliavini in the course of her visit to Sukhumi on January 12th, the UN office in Tbilisi reported.
According to Abkhazian mass media, the Abkhazian leadership proposes the Georgian President give up the military solution of the conflict, start fulfilling the obligations on the earlier reached agreements and take effective measures against the criminal formations active in Western Georgia.
Tagliavini is supposed to hand the Abkhazian authorities' proposals to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.
Ms. Tagliavini is preparing for the UN Security Council a report on the situation in the area of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict and prospects for its future settlement. The situation in Abkhazia and prospects for the settlement of the situation will be discussed at the UN Security Council late in January.
The Georgian-Abkhazian talks were interrupted in October of 2001, when an attempt of military attack against Abkhazia was taken by Georgia from the Kodori gorge. According to Abkhazian media, a detachment of Chechen militant Ruslan Gelayev that was transferred from the Pankisi gorge to the Kodori gorge in Georgia, participated in the operation.
