ACCIDENT AT SIBERIAN MINE KILLS THREE MINERS

NOVOSIBIRSK/MOSCOW, January 10th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - The explosion at the Sibirskaya coal mine in the Kemerovo region on Saturday left three miners dead, a spokesman for the local emergencies department said.

As of 2 pm Moscow time, three miners were killed in the explosion. Their bodies have been lifted.

According to the spokesman, the fate of one miner is still unclear.

The Russian emergencies ministry has confirmed the death of the three miners. Another ten people with various burns have been rushed to hospital.

At the moment, 14 miners are waiting to be lifted at the bucket. They are about to be raised to the surface, said the spokesman.

Fifty-seven out of the 96 miners were caught at the epicentre of the explosion, with 39 of them already lifted. Ten rescue divisions are working at the site.
