ASTANA, January 8, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - This year Kazakhstan might invest about $1 bln into Russian economy. This was disclosed to Russian journalists on Thursday by Kazakh Foreign Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev in connection with the opening of the year of Russia in Kazakhstan.

"The potential of Russia is very high," he disclosed to journalists. "According to our estimations, if one compares economies of the both countries one must multiply it by 12 and will get $12 bln," he said.

"I believe that Russians would like to invest into the Kazakh economy since it's beneficial not only economically but politically as well," the Kazakh Foreign Minister said.

"It is easy to guess that Kazakhstan can only benefit if Russia prospers," he added.

"We want to draw attention to the fact that rating agencies highly estimate perspectives of Russian economic development. Well-known investment agency Goldman Sachs predicts that by 2040 Russia will enter the top five leading states by GDP volume," Tokayev noted. "This proves that by developing relations with Russia Kazakhstan leads the right way," the Minister stressed.
