FOREIGN MINISTERS OF "SHANGHAI SIX" TO MEET IN BEIJING

BEIJING, January 6, 2004. /RIA Novosti/ -- On January 15, 2004, the Chinese capital will host a session of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, the Chinese Foreign Ministry's official spokesman Kong Quan announced at a briefing on Tuesday.

Foreign ministers of the "Shanghai Six" will discuss major directions of diplomatic interaction within the organization and will consider topical international and regional problems.

On the same day ministers from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will attend the opening ceremony of the Organization's headquarters that will be based in Beijing. Former Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Deguang has been appointed Executive Secretary for the next four years.

The opening ceremony will also be attended by representatives of some international organizations.
