NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS IN MOSCOW ON NEW YEAR NIGHT

MOSCOW, January 1, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent/. The New Year night in Moscow has passed without serious incidents, the information and public relations office of the Moscow main interior department, told RIA Novosti.

"In general, the New Year celebrations in the capital passed calmly, with no extraordinary incidents reported in the city," said a spokesman for the department.

According to him, crime statistics for the day included two murders, 4 instances of causing grave bodily injury, 11 robberies with violence, 25 armed robberies, and 106 thefts. "On the New Year's eve police detained in Moscow streets 347 persons in the state of heavy alcoholic intoxication," the spokesman said.
