The Kremlin's spokesman has commented on Russia's ties with Ukraine, as well as the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the APEC summit.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The issue of the Ukrainian Parliament possibly deciding to sever ties with Russia is a sovereign affair, but such a step would harm the citizens of both countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"This is Ukraine’s sovereign affair. Many decisions were adopted in Ukraine in recent years that had the most negative consequences for the resolution in the country’s southeast. I reckon that if such decision is adopted this time this will complicate the situation additionally, but most importantly it will harm the interests of people in Ukraine itself and Russia," Peskov told reporters.

The statement comes amid an interview of a Ukrainian lawmaker, who told the Kommersant newspaper on Tuesday that the bill on the reintegration of Donbass may envisage the break-up of diplomatic relations with Moscow, however, no official confirmation followed. The Ukrainian Parliament, Verkhovna Rada, plans to consider the bill in the second reading on November 16.

On Possibility of Putin-Trump Meeting

Commenting on the possibility of a second meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, Peskov has stated that "its likelihood is high."

"As far as the meeting with Trump is concerned, both Putin and Trump have intense schedules of bilateral meetings, which were arranged in advance," Peskov told reporters, adding that the search for the most convenient time and format was underway.

The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week is being held in the Vietnamese coastal city of Da Nang from November 6-11, bringing together high-level delegations from the APEC member states. The Economic Leaders’ Week is considered to be one of the main events of Vietnam's APEC 2017 presidency that sums up its efforts throughout the whole year.
