MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Russian Security Council said in a statement Tuesday that it had discussed risks and challenges posed by NATO presence in Eastern Europe with the Security Council of Belarus.

Bilateral consultations on security issues held in Minsk were headed by Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and his Belarusian counterpart Stanislav Zas.

"The sides exchanged opinions regarding risks and challenges to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus posed by increased NATO military presence in Eastern Europe, as well as issues related to the fight against international terrorism," the Council said.

The Russian delegation also informed the Belarusian colleagues about the course of the anti-terrorist operation conducted in Syria.

Joint actions aimed at strengthening international and regional security, bilateral cooperation in the training of peacekeeping units and an increase of the troops' technical equipment were also on the meeting's agenda.

Experts from the two countries also discussed the development of legal framework between Russia and Belarus, paying special attention to improving the legal regulation of cooperation of investigative committees and migration control bodies.
